I'm going to chronicle the effort that goes into campaigning a bike in club racing. I'm currently a "mid-pack" racer looking to move up to become a "front-pack" racer. My goal is to apply myself this year and give myself the skills, experience, and hardware that it will require. I'm doing this mostly as a diary so that I'll have something to look back on at the end of the year. I hope that some of my friends who are getting more serious about their track riding and who are considering racing can learn something from my experiences, as well. If you ever have any questions, feel free to drop me a line at tigre _at_ tigerbike (dot_. com Cheers, Steve Owner and Rider - Tigerbike Racing

2006 AFM Racing - Round 5 - Thunderhill
By tigre on Monday, July 10, 2006
First off, I'd like to thank DesmotoSport without whose tireless efforts this week, I would not have gotten out on the track at all.  Desmoto diagnosed a motor that was blowing compression (read: "not at full power") and fixed the main issue.  While they were examining the motor, they also noticed that my piston rings were bad.  Due to a mistake caused by Fast by Ferracci, Desmoto did not get my replacement piston rings until Saturday.  Fortunately, they got my bike together lickety-split and got me on the road.

After rolling up to the track late on Saturday (I had a small 3-hour detour to return home and feed my cats), I had just enough time to change my tires with my No-Mar tire changer.&l ...

2006 Track Days - May 10 - Sears Point
By tigre on Saturday, May 13, 2006

First trackday back at Sears.  Started gradually picking up the pace in the morning.  Each session out I took another second off my times.  1:53, then 1:52, then 1:51.  The first session out after lunch, I was feeling great.  Hauling all around the track, until I hit turn 8 on about the 5th lap out.

Going into the turn, I lost the rear and started sliding.  As I was sliding on my back, I saw the bike stand up and ghost-ride for a bit before slamming down on the right side.

I had to wait until the end of the day to pick up my bike and I had a lot of work to do that night.  My quick-turn throttle was ruined, and I broke ...

2006 Track Days - May 1 - Thunderhill - Track days
By tigre on Sunday, April 30, 2006

I finally hit my first dry and warm trackday of the year.  The suspension has now been dialed in.  The bike was running strong.  And I am out onto the track.

First session out, I dialed down from 2:20 to 2:11.  My previous best at the track was a 2:04, but I was just shooting to get into the single digits.  The next session out, my first (untimed) lap was strong and I was getting ready to try to grind out some good times.  Then it happened.  Coming through 14 and 15 onto the main straight, I started getting on the gas and then the bike started running on one cylinder.  Argh!

I finished the rest of the lap with my hand u ...
