I'm going to chronicle the effort that goes into campaigning a bike in club racing. I'm currently a "mid-pack" racer looking to move up to become a "front-pack" racer. My goal is to apply myself this year and give myself the skills, experience, and hardware that it will require. I'm doing this mostly as a diary so that I'll have something to look back on at the end of the year. I hope that some of my friends who are getting more serious about their track riding and who are considering racing can learn something from my experiences, as well. 2006 Track days - September 9-10 - Buttonwillow
By tigre on Friday, September 08, 2006

I got to try the backwards configuration that the AFM would be running at the end of October.  All-in-all not too bad, but there are some wicked spots where I anticipate some carnage.

I tested a new rear tire and loved it.  In my last session out for the 2-day weekend I dropped 2 seconds off my personal best at the track and got down to 1:59.  Not bad for a 97hp Ducati superbike!

2006 Track Days - September 2-4 - Thunderhill
By tigre on Monday, September 04, 2006
Got down to 2:02 on my first day of a 3-day weekend.  I spent the rest of the time working on a few techniques, including trail-braking.  I also adjusted the suspension to make the bike handle quite a bit better.

I worked with a coach on 9-3 and 9-4.  Awesome stuff -- some great pointers on riding and bike setup.  The only downside for me was that I didn't turn any faster lap times than I had on 9-2.

2006 AFM Racing - Round 5 - Thunderhill
By tigre on Monday, July 10, 2006
First off, I'd like to thank DesmotoSport without whose tireless efforts this week, I would not have gotten out on the track at all.  Desmoto diagnosed a motor that was blowing compression (read: "not at full power") and fixed the main issue.  While they were examining the motor, they also noticed that my piston rings were bad.  Due to a mistake caused by Fast by Ferracci, Desmoto did not get my replacement piston rings until Saturday.  Fortunately, they got my bike together lickety-split and got me on the road.

After rolling up to the track late on Saturday (I had a small 3-hour detour to return home and feed my cats), I had just enough time to change my tires with my No-Mar tire changer.&l ...
